Every year in Australia and New Zealand, over 1,6 million cubic metres of MDF and particleboard is produced using virgin wood fibres and non-recyclable fibre bonding resins. Much of this engineered wood is ultimately disposed of as toxic landfill.
Xanita’s proprietary manufacturing process reduced the reliance on virgin wood fibres by channeling recovered and recycled cardboard boxes and sugar cane (bagasse) waste and converting this into a high-strength corrugated fibreboard core board, or “X-Core,” which delivers a host of performance and hidden cost-saving benefits when this is skinned with rigid panels to make a fit-for-purpose, lightweight composite board.
X-Core is where it all starts at Xanita. This is the essential component that provides the versatility of our entire product range. X-Core is manufactured using recycled cellulose fibre and was developed using innovative technology developed in-house at Xanita.
X-Core has a vast number of uses as a structural filler across all construction and branding industries.
X-Core is perfectly suited for laminate and composite applications where weight reduction is beneficial. In this application X-Core is used as the internal core of laminates including doors, shelves, joinery and fiberglass components. These laminates are primarily used in the construction, furniture, boat building, shopfitting and aircraft manufacturing industries. Other related benefits of weight reduction include savings on transport, handling, storage and damage costs, as the material is simply lighter and easier to work with.
Despite its lightweight construction, however, it is extremely strong, with a compressive strength of 90 tonnes per square meter.
X-Core substantially reduces the weight of joinery components such as doors, drawers, counter tops and cupboards. This places less stress on hinges and draw-tracks and therefore allows specialists to use larger components or reduce the amount of hardware and be more cost-efficient.
X-Core is available in panels of varying thickness. Minimum thickness 8mm – Maximum thickness 120mm.
Size of the single panels are 607mm x1250mm.
These single panels can be used side by side during the lamination process to create a composite panel size to match your needs.
Typical applications for X-Core include:
- Shelving
- Internal filler for doors
- Lightweight furniture
- Shopfitting
- Walls
- Marine & RV construction
- Acoustic screens
- Fiberglass applications
- Housing panels
- Beams and floors
- Insulation panels
